I do adore Marc Jacobs quite passionately, so I feel ok criticizing the occasional MJ purse as warranted. Here we go with the designer’s Graffiti Standard Supply Tote, part of the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. There’s a lot going on with this roomy bag, some good and some bag. The good news is that it’s exceptionally spacious, so it’s great to carry on weekend getaways or a long day when you need a little extra room for a heavy load. The bad, though, outweighs the bag’s functional soundness. It’s essentially gone graffiti-wild, covered with everything from skulls to little phrases, such as “Who Did You Judge?” At $148, it’s somewhat easy on the bank account but isn’t worth anything close to that. Artistic fine jewelry designer Anna Sheffield counts celebs like Cameron Diaz and Jessica Alba as fans. The designer also has a lesser-known, but equally exquisite luxury line of handbags under the name “Bing Bang“. Now, you can get some celebrity style at their New York sample sale this week. With such an unassuming name, you wouldn’t expect much from this little purse. But it’s a little bag with a lot of pizzazz. Gwen Stefani is clearly reminiscing about her earlier years as the lead singer of No Doubt with this L.A.M.B. ‘Music Rocksteady’ Tote. Even reusing the name of her last album Rock Steady for this bag. The album was a great party record with a lot of 80s arcade game sound effects. So, it comes as no surprise that the bag mirrors those adjectives. The bag (seen here in Berry) has a base of beautiful quilted leather debossed with the signature L.A.M.B. logo. This bag is party-ready with its tri-colored bold stripes of pink, chocolate and white down the center. The interior is reminiscent of the 80s with its play on nautical stripes. Spinning off of the Copper craze, Rust is one of the IT colors for fall. Rust compliments hazel, green and amber eyes best, but can be worn with any complexion. Rust is a perfect match to denim washes and looks delicious with chocolate. Rust also dyes up beautifully in leather. Rich Cognacs, Saddles and Indian Reds; Rust colored leathers get better with time. As the leather matures the highs and lows become more attractive adding to the look of the skin. Rust is also a more natural shade in leather and does not have to be over treated. Handbags and accessories dyed up in the Rust family are a treasure. Not quiet Hermes’s signature color (nothing is quite like that pantone), Rust is extremely flattering and bold. I hope this color sticks around for Spring 2009.
