Do you go into autopilot the moment you step outside your door? Do you find yourself running people off the road or sidewalk in order to get from point A to point B?
This week I challenge you to reconsider your daily commute. Here are a few ways to boost your awareness and make the commute a daily ritual rather than part of the daily grind:
Exude Gratitude Take a moment to express gratitude for everything good in your life. Focusing on the positive opens the door to more positive outcomes.
Compliment Yourself Think of something you did well in the past 12 hours and congratulate yourself for a job well done. It can be as simple as the way you made your lunch or the fact you remembered something important.
Send blessings Studies have shown the positive affects of prayer. Send blessings and good intentions to loved ones and people you work with.
Sit up straight and tall Since mind, body and spirit are all connected, your good posture will help improve your mood and lift your spirits.
Breathe Inhale with attention on your feet and exhale with attention on your head. Conscious breathing for just one minute increases energy and boosts your immune system.
Slow Down Driving/walking/biking slower allows you to notice the beauty and abundance around you. Take your time and see more of your surroundings like beautiful birds, a cool breeze or a smiling face.
Listen to music. Enjoy some good tunes. Sound (and vibration) has the power to heal. Let your body soak it up, sing out loud or bounce to the beat.

This week’s wellness tip-
“Eat the biggest meal when the sun is highest in the sky.” - LarryPayne, PhD (co-author of Yoga for Dummies and Yoga Rx)
Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending Larry’s workshop, “Yoga and the Mid-Life Mind”, at the Yoga for Health International Yoga Therapy Conference. He learned this tip from his own teacher and now shares it with all of his students. Eating your largest meal in the middle of the day will help you to maintain your weight. He also advises not eating anything after 7:30 pm. Stay tuned for an article covering Larry’s 8 Step Wellness Plan.

TGiF! Enjoy this weeks eco-friendly tidbit

Do you find yourself wandering up and down store aisles, dumbfounded by the sheer number of choices we have in beauty, skincare, and home products? Then I suggest you bookmark this site goodguide.com. Originally launched as a UC Berkeley research project, GoodGuide is committed to helping you make better, informed decisions about the products you buy and the companies that make them. Think of it as a Yelp for helping you choose safe, healthy, and green personal health and household products. Whats cool is GoodGuide rates products based not only on safety but also on their environmental impact and how socially responsible the company who makes the product is.
Hopefully this makes your next shopping trip easier, faster, and greener.

You probably know that yoga can bring peace of mind; put you in touch with your deeper self; and give you a sleek, toned bodybut did you know that it can also be used to prevent and treat various illnesses? Yoga can help alleviate and heal a wide range of conditions, including minor ailments (such as headaches and the common cold) and chronic illnesses (such as depression, cancer, and HIV).
If you’re going to be in the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend, October 3rd 5th, join Laci and me in attending Yoga for Health the 3rd Annual Yoga Therapy Conference in San Rafael at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel. The conference will feature nationally and internationally known yoga masters, such as Joel Kramer (a.k.a. “father of modern American yoga”), Rama Jyoti Vernon (founder of the International Yoga College, the California Yoga Teachers’ Association and Unity in Yoga International), Antonio Sausys (somatic health practitioner and yoga professor). Click here for the full line-up. In addition to yoga masters, the conference will also have healthcare providers, alternative therapy doctors, and experts who will be guiding classes, workshops, and lectures specifically intended to address the therapeutic applications of yoga.
Imagine utilizing the power within yourself instead of seeking solace in a pill. Click here to register for the conference, and stay tuned for our upcoming articles on yoga and healing!
